Wayne Boykin lives with an
intellectual disability and is employed at Barton College in Wilson,
North Carolina, where he works in the Hamlin Student Center dining hall.
His responsibilities include cleaning tables, sweeping floor and helping to maintain the facility.
hopes this job, which he has had since August 2017, will help him
become more independent and possibly achieve his goal of moving out on
his own. He has also been inspired to cook more at home because of the
various types of work that he’s been exposed to at the dining hall.
addition to his job at Barton College, Wayne is also very active in his
community, where he enjoys bowling and participates in the Special
Additionally, he is a member of the Hope Singers, a chorus group of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who perform regularly in the Wilson area and throughout the State.
