Nahoma Cooper
Nahoma Cooper lives with an intellectual disability and has been working in the same building for 18 years in Wilson, NC.
When the building turned into a YMCA in 2003, Nahoma continued working there as a member of their housekeeping team.
Nahoma enjoys cleaning the facility, but more than that, she has become part of the community at the YMCA. She is a fixture at the gym and has only missed a handful of days in her entire 18 years.
Executive
Director Kathryn Davis says, “She does not miss work and always comes
in with a smile." The regulars and staff know Nahoma well and it's a
supportive environment.
They also treat her like family, which in turn gives her an incredible amount of pride. She makes sure to wear her YMCA name tag every single day as a badge of honor.
Nahoma Cooper cleans the exercise equipment at the YMCA in Wilson. She has been working there for nearly two decades and has only missed work a handful of times.
Having worked at the YMCA for 18 years, Nahoma is proud of her job and role in the organization. All of the regular clients know her and she is a vital part of the gym’s personality.

One of her many responsibilities is to vacuum the gym floor. Nahoma is also responsible for cleaning the gym equipment, washing the windows and making sure everything is in order.
Nahoma wears her Wilson YMCA name tag every single day as a badge of honor.
